Why R.E.S.S.E.T Has Two S’s: The Power of Mindful Techniques

You may be wondering why do we spell R.E.S.S.E.T (pronounced reset) with 2 S’s. Well, we have a very good reason, and it’s not that we forgot to hit spell check. Our name R.E.S.S.E.T is an acronym for what our techniques enable you to do – Reduce Environmental Stimuli for Self-Evaluation Technique.

R.E.S.S.E.T is built upon two key processes: RES (Reduced Environmental Stimuli) and SET (Evaluation Techniques).

  1. R.E.S. is the process of becoming mindful and developing greater awareness of the self and its environment by reducing external stimuli.

  2. S.E.T., on the other hand, is the process of cognitively contemplating thoughts, emotions and behaviors that impact your physical, mental and emotional health.

Action:

We are going to show you how you can start to reduce stimuli and create a quiet place for yourself to R.E.S.S.E.T in 2 easy steps:

  1. Find a quiet, comfortable place to sit or lay down and simply close your eyes.

  2. Start by focusing on your breath.

  3. The key here is that by focusing on one thing (your breath) you can reduce the noise of other things.

Focusing on your breath can be really hard. Going forward we will be sharing other ways to tune out noise by focusing on one thing. But for now just practice by focusing on your breath throughout your day, even if it is just for 20 seconds.
